Who is he (Jesus)?

There are many things said and many things done that show that Jesus is the Christ (the only Messiah). But what does that actually mean?

Jesus being God in-flesh is not just an important point but THE point in all of Scripture. If you miss this you gain nothing. You can believe or do all the Bible says; you can say he died for you, that he heals and does miracles, that he is the greatest of any human or prophet and still miss the salvation freely given through his name.

Not knowing who he is leaves you out of the kingdom.

To be Christ (the Messsiah) means He is the incarnate God, the anointed one (of humanity) that God calls his beloved (and only begotten) Son.

Isa 42:1-2 “ Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights!I have put My Spirit upon Him

Lk.8:40 A woman in a crowd of people touch Jesus and he stops and says power went out of ME. The woman was healed instantly. Jesus knew something from his inner nature was released. What does this mean? How does someone get healed by touching him? He said that power went out from inside him. And it was done by faith.

He then tells a dead girl who can’t hear to get up to come back to life. Jairus believed he could heal his daughter but to bring her back from the dead was a whole other matter.

Mark 2:10-12 He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you .” And some of the scribes were sitting there reasoning in their hearts, “ Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone? ” But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves,

"That you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic,  I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go your way to your house." Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

Throughout the New Testament Jesus uses the term the Son of Man for Himself as a reference to showing His authority He had on earth as a man. The Pharisees objected by saying He was speaking blasphemies “only God can forgive sins,” (Mt.9:6) and they were right. As a man He’s able to personally forgive the man’s sins, He is also able perceive what they are thinking; something only God can do. Luke 11:17: “ But He, knowing their thoughts.”

The Bible tells us one is to have faith in God only. Jesus said in Mark 11:22: “Have faith in God.” He also said, “you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1). All who honor the Father must honor (equally) the Son.

They asked Jesus to heal and by a word spoken with those sometimes not present they were immediately healed. No prophet was ever able to do this. Jesus asked, “ What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well. ” (Lk. 18:41-42)

Jesus appealed to miracles He caused as a testimony to His Divine nature. Jesus said in John 10:3: If they don't believe him for his words (who He says he is) at least believe him because of his works (Jn.10:38). The works would vindicate his personhood.

In order that you may know my authority on earth as the Son of man - His humanity (Lk.5:24). The human nature they could see, the deity they could not. Thus he would prove that he is the Son of God - his deity, who he really is.

The forgiveness if sins, though invisible was just as important as the healing. One they can see, the other can only be testified by the individual.  His healing of the paralytic became a proof of his power to forgive sins and thus of his deity. Son of man is the title that Jesus chose to use almost exclusively for Himself. It is found in Daniel where it had become a designation of the Messiah (Dan 7:13-14).

For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” (Mt.12:8). A human did not make the Sabbath? Lord is meant as master. The intent was to prove that He was the Son of God , God incarnated in the body of the man Christ Jesus.

At the Transfiguration- Jesus had a light from within consume his person. Matt 17:2 describes him as transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light, he was engulfed in a light that is described as brighter than the sun.

He also summoned both Moses and Elijah to show up. Moses was still in paradise under the earth while Elijah who never died was in heaven, he summoned them both to be with him. He the showed what was within him, God’s glory which had before the world began (Jn.17:5)

Matt 17:5 a bright cloud overshadowed them; Mark 9:7 …and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" Then they all disappeared and only Jesus with them.

Jesus is not just a man The old testament speaks of him as God’s equal

Zech 13:7 awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion," Says the LORD of hosts."Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered ;

The word for fellow in Hebrew means “equal”, meaning the man who is his equal. The shepherd would be whom David called his shepherd, the LORD is my shepherd on Ps.23.

We read in the New Testament of the shepherd being struck and the sheep scattering (Mt.26:31).

Isa 46:5 to whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal And compare Me, that we should be alike? (also Isa 40:25)

John 5:18-19 He said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”

Phil 2:6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God

This is reinforced in Ps 80:17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.” It is Jesus who we read is at God’s right hand, who is called the son of man. (Ps.110:1) He alone is chosen to be the one God has made strong for himself, as he does nothing except what the Father has him do. Perfect obedience as a son of man.

Jer. 23:5-6 " Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS . “

A descendent of David (a man) will be king and will rule in the Millennium as king when Judah is saved. His name is Adonia Tzidkenu, means the Lord is our righteousness. This is seen as Christ is explained by the apostle Paul.  Rom. 10:4 “ For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” Presenting the God man concept fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament.  The God man fulfilled the requirements of the law and we put our trust in him.
