Who is this born among men?

In the Old Testament period He came as a messenger to Israel and certain saints through history(called the messenger of the Lord). He did so until it was time for him to fulfill prophecy, for him to be born to Israel, among his people. There was no show when Jesus was born, only a few people knew of it. The angel came with glory and made this birth known to the shepherds, but no one else.

Luke 2:8-14 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

Shepherds whose lives revolved around keeping the animals had this privilege to hear this which made them want to see this. They came to the city of David to see this miracle the angels praised God for, there were no 3 wise men there. The many shepherds were wise to immediately seek to see.

What they found, is the birth of Jesus, God’s gift to all mankind, salvation came by the Jews, the people he chose and formed and gave the law to.

Born humbly away from the reason everyone was called to Bethlehem. Born in the field, in a manger among the animals that were the sacrifices. He too would one day be part of the sacrificial system. He was the sign, wrapped in burial cloths prophesying his mission.

Born a son of David through his mother’s lineage, he would first live as the son of Joseph suffering before he was crowned (John 1:45). The son of Joseph is a term used in Judaism of the suffering Messiah. The Son of David is a term used for his kingship that he will exercise over the people by a perfect government. The first coming as the Son of Joseph (the suffering one who was betrayed) the other as the Son of David (the ruling King whom will rule over his people).

As he grew up among his people and his mother Mary (Mariam) could say without any equivocation my son is perfect. For he committed no sin, even as a young child he was obedient. And he was obedient even to his death for yours and my sins.

The Jesus we know does not look like a baby in a manger today, that is the image and that many want to still think, that he never grew up. But he is at the right hand of the Father and is soon to return not as a lamb (the suffering one) but a lion (the conquering king)

In the meantime each year as his birth and death are remembered we are closer to that day. It will be a day equally significant as his birth.

Maybe you have not considered the importance of Jesus coming into the world or the way he left. You should, not only because you are missing out on so much but because your purpose in life is uniquely  connected to him. If it is not than all will be wasted. No one likes to waste time much less their life.

We should all give God our best because he gave us His best, and nothing can compare. There is nothing I have that equals what he gave but God only asks that I give myself. That’s the starting point. But we can’t begin this until we believe the message, called the gospel.

The message is about the person born that willingly came from heaven to die. Gods Son came to alleviate the sin problem. No doctor, no scientist, no psychologist, no Genius can cure.

Some follow him because of the food he provided, others to see miracles and others for healing. Still others followed for who He is and are satisfied with his teaching that will help him grow as a person and mature into what God wants us to be.

Do you follow Him?
