Take dominion or cease dominion

Gen 1:2 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

So we read that this command was to Adam and Eve only. After they failed the test in the Garden they were removed  from the paradise area and everything changed for both of them. What they had jurisdiction over, what they ruled over was not the same.

On the command to Adam and Eve

Those who are reconstructionists or dominionists have an interpretation problem with Genesis that they will not let go of.

Gen 1:26-28Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Gen 2:4-25 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, v.7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. v.15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

The instruction for the test in the garden

Gen 3:5-6 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

For the woman  and her relation ship to her husband

Gen 3:16 To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."

For the man and his relationship as the grounds keeper and his own life

Gen 3:17-19 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field.19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

V. 22-24 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"--therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.  So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

They were driven out of the garden and not allowed to eat from the tree of life. They were removed from the garden where the test of his authority would be accomplished, thus man forfeited the position God gave, and we do not find any man or any nation not even the church where this is repealed.

Noah and the new world after the flood

Gen 9:1  So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.”

Notice no command is  given again, renewed to have dominion, to anyone, not even Noah and his sons. It was rescinded. Just as eating only vegetables and fruit were rescinded.

Gen 9:3-7 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. "But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood." Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man. "Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God he made man. And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth and multiply in it."

God did not tell Noah to subdue the earth after he instructed him to replenish it. When Moses came along and the Lord made Israel to be his only theocracy he did not tell them rule over the earth either.

The church who is being transformed into Christ likeness will not rule over the earth or the world before Christ comes. We will rule under him, and furthermore we need to be completely transformed to do this. This means we must experience the new life from the resurrection/ rapture; becoming sinless and immortal so this can be accomplished.

We do not read into the Bible but draw from it because "thy word id Truth."  Anyone who teaches we are to take dominion just as Adam and Eve were told, when they were kicked out of the garden, are teaching a lie.
