When did Israel receive the Old Testament?

It is mostly conservative Christian and Jewish scholars that hold to the idea that the Bible began to be written at the time of Moses. Which is exactly what the Bible records “ Then Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.” ( Deuteronomy 31:9)

Views of the biblical writings timeline range from about 1600-1200 BC. The majority of mainstream scholars, (not students of the Word, most who are not conservative) believe that the early books of the Hebrew Bible only began to be written in the period from the 7th to 4th centuries BC. Which tells us that they do not believe the revelation given to Israel through Moses is true. Exod.24:4 “ And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord,” for he would have been long dead and this becomes a lie.

They are making a mountain out of a molehill and have literally no understanding of how the Scripture was delivered.

Exodus 31:23 “The Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words.” Ex 34:27 “ the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."

We read this phrase over and over, the command to write, and write as more is said to Moses. According to these type of ‘scholars’, this makes the law of God, everything written a lie, even God becomes a liar. Which means you can’t believe or trust the Bible, you should instead trust their interpretation of history (which most of them cannot agree upon). Which many believe is a history with made up Gods.

Everything that God wanted the people to know was to be written so that they would read it daily and would not forget it and become disobedient. Even the harsh things were written, Num. 5:23 'Then the priest shall write these curses in a book.”

Joshua 1:6-8 says, “… be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it ; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.”

This is taking place somewhere no later than 1450 BC. After Moses died, Joshua took over the leadership of Israel. And as he prepared to conquer the people who live in the Promised Land Canaan, that would be transferred to the Israelites. The Lord told Joshua to be encouraged and to obey the Book of the Law (v. 8). He also told Him and to teach others to follow all the law that Moses gave him (v. 7).

When Joshua entered the Promised Land he had with him the writings ofMoses by his own hand. Not a book that was copied. There were nocopies of the writings of Moses, yet. . . with first-hand information within the writings of Moses . . . Joshua entered the Promised Land with the actual writings of Moses. The original writings.

Now we should understand how important the Word was to the people. The bible explains itself plainly.

Deut. 4:1-2 “ Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you “ You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take anything from it , that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you .”

These words were written and spoken and memorized as part of their religious culture, Judaism.

Deut. 6:6-9 " And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

As the word was given regularly, we read in Deut. 17:18-19 “ Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes.”

Now we can understand that when so called academics say it was written centuries later and make up all kinds of stories from history from archeology and the other religions of the surrounding areas that were pagan. They deny the writers who were eyewitnesses and lived in that period of bible history, Showing they understand very little on divine revelation from the true God who made Israel.

Joshua was told 1:8 “ but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.”

God punished Israel when they disobeyed his Word. Sometimes severely “Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left.”( Joshua 23:6)

This means all 5 books which according to the elitist scholars that know more than you who say all this writing did not exist yet.

Todays scholarship

We have a split among those who study history. Some say the language of Hebrew was copied from the Canaanites or came much later. Certainly there was similarities of men’s dialect throughout that portion of the world, even after God confounded the languages at the tower of Babel 500 plus years before.

Dr. Gershon Galil, professor of biblical studies at the University of Haifa, Israel deciphered the Garfinkel text and identified it as an ancient form of Hebrew, says it is evidence that earlier (than most mainstream scholars believe) authorship of the Hebrew Bible was possible.

New Discoveries Indicate Hebrew was World’s Oldest Alphabet

New evidence that may change everything has been announced by Dr. Douglas Petrovich, an archaeologist, epigrapher and professor of ancient Egyptian studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. Epigraphy is the study of inscriptions – making classifications and looking for the slightest distinctive between writing systems, while defining their meanings and the cultural contexts in which they were written. After many years of careful study, Petrovich believes he has gathered sufficient evidence to establish the claim that not only was the Hebrew alphabet in use centuries earlier than some believe, it was in the form of early Hebrew, something that almost no one has previously accepted.

This certainly goes against the grain of what the elite scholars who call themselves academics hold to. The fact that Genesis is in the Hebrew language with Hebrew names and meanings that does support the language being used early on.

The standard presentation of Phoenician being the first alphabet is curious, since scholars have long known of much older alphabetic inscriptions. In 1904–1905 Sir Flinders Petrie , the father of Egyptian archaeology, and his wife Hilda discovered several rudimentary alphabetic inscriptions in the copper and turquoise mines that were controlled by the ancient Egyptians on the Sinai Peninsula.

Sir Alan Gardiner, the premier linguist of his day, deciphered some of the writings and proclaimed that they were a form of primitive alphabet and that they used a Semitic language. The script became known as “Proto-Sinaitic” and was dated to the late Middle Bronze Age in the 1600s or early 1500s BC. American W. F. Albright, is known as the father of biblical archaeology, popularized the idea that these were Semitic writings and many took up the idea that Israelite slaves were responsible for these inscriptions.

Hebrew being the world’s oldest alphabet, was first claimed in the 1920’s by German scholar Hubert Grimme. “Although Grimme identified some of the Egyptian inscriptions as Hebrew, he was unable to identify all of the alphabet correctly,” explained Roni Segal, academic adviser for The Israel Institute of Biblical Studies, an online language academy specializing in Biblical Hebrew, who spoke to Breaking Israel News .

As modern skepticism about the biblical account of the Exodus period took hold late in the 20th century, scholars have generally retreated from the idea that the Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions were the product of Israelite mine workers. Additionally, the discovery of many other alphabetic inscriptions in the Canaan area dated to the period from 1200-1050 BC prompted the need for a new category. These, and a few earlier fragments from that area that were all similar to the Proto-Sinaitic constructions, were labeled as “Proto-Canaanite.”

So what do we make of all this?

I can sum it up very easily. Either God gave revelation to Moses or he did not. Either God developed the nation Israel under him as the world’s only theocracy or He did not. Either God became a man through the means of Mary the virgin, lived a perfect life and died for sins and raised 3 days later or he did not. Either the Word is the truth as said numerous times or it is not. Either prophets prophesied or they had great imaginations and the Bible is just another religious book like all the other religions.

If you don’t believe the Bible is of a supernatural divine origin from God then get out of the church, don’t be a pastor or a teacher or have anything to do with Christ, or Christians. Go live your life as you see fit, and believe all the myths and fables that history is filled with. Side with the atheists and be as God calls them, fools. But please do not tell us about your so called more intelligent opinion of history,or archeology, for you are just another blatherskite who cannot receive the truth.
