The Danger of "New Revelation"

Paul writes in 1 Cor. 4:6, “that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

Once someone is allowed to tell people stories like; Jesus appeared to them in their room or they visited heaven and they were given new revelation, the rest comes easy. They become as if lost at sea, adrift with their fantasy revelation that makes them more important. They have something to say that no one else does because they were chosen.

The reality of demons should not be dismissed, or underestimated, they are deceptive. They have one think they are in contact with God and pride is always the bait on the hook. Encapsulated in their new teaching is God is with me as they present to the hearers their new revelation.

Unsubstantiated claims from revelations is opening people up and giving legal access for spirits to deceive them, the same ones that deceive the presenters of new revelation. This accepted methodology is introducing an occultic teaching inside the church that has gained far too much traction, yet we are warned in Scripture that it would take place.
Many of these revelators do not go deeper but go above, using their own revelation to interpret the word. These men and women become Prophets who know better than God! Seems like an oxymoron statement but this is what is taking place today. They speak for him when He has not spoken. After prophesying something right they feel confident on their own. Look at Peter, he spoke a revelation he received from the Father and the very next thing said is from Satan which was against the plan of God. He thought he knew what God wanted, to preserve Jesus. Even later at the arrest of Jesus he is still going to prevent this from happening. Which meant that he did not take to heart what Jesus said to him as a rebuke in Mt.16.

They are not only false prophets we were told would come into the church (Mt.24:11,24; 2 Pt.2:1) These are the Nicolaitan’s we were warned about from Jesus “Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate” (Revelation 2:15). A Nicolaitan is one who rules over the common people by intimidation or manipulation. A two-class system is created where you have the revelator given prominence over the other believers who hold to scripture;

This is nothing to dismiss, it was serious to Paul who wrote “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind” (Col 2:18).

They may not be worshipping angels but Paul is also describing a type of person goes into great detail about what he says he has seen, and his false spiritual experience puffs him up into an importance. That's exactly what's going on today in an unprecedented scale. People claiming to go to heaven or someone from heaven visiting them

Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 9–10)

If you are living by the Scripture and someone enters speaking contrary to it you are not to listen to them, you are especially not allowed it to spread. It does not matter what kind of a friend he is to the pastor, or how successful he is in ministry or that he has been doing this ministry for longer than everyone else, he is not to introduce strange doctrine (Heb.13:9). Today there is no lack of the strange...

We have an obligation to keep to what is revealed and protect ourselves and others from what is not revealed. Because there is no way to know if it is true or not. A subjective experience can feel real but it does not mean its true.

This is simple to understand.

When these type of people get in authority and their words are accepted it leads people away from the truth that was spoken by the eye witnesses. Their followers no longer need the Bible but only what they say “about the word,” and their experiences. Nicolaitans use their place of authority to rule over others. Like mystics and The Gnostics, they do not teach the written word of the apostles but their special revelation. They consider themselves rich in the spirit and chosen to carry special revelatory messages as the end unfolds.

Our spiritual walk is not to be guided by fresh “words from the Lord” or “new revelation.” When the Word of God is substituted by other men’s words, you begin to lose any spiritual understanding you had of the Word, we become dependent on certain men’s teachings.

Mark 4:24-25 Then He said to them, "Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. "For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him."

This is the spiritual principle of the word and walking it. One can go from light to darkness and think the darkness is still the light.

John 8:47 "He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God."

John 10: 8"All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.” His sheep do not listen to those who come after either (Mk.13:6; Lk.21:8). 2 Peter 2:2: “And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Hearing another voice that does not expound the scripture separates you from hearing God’s voice in His word. Just as Eve listened to the Devil explain what God had meant about the fruit tree and when she listened she then convinced her husband Adam. Most will not say they are following a certain teacher or their revelation, but they are if they spend their time reading their books, listening to their videos and attending their gatherings and not taking time in the word. In fact if they spent the time in the word that they do at these Nicolaiten prophets meetings, they may not be tempted to go.

The apostle wrote “They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.

We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error” (I Jn. 4:5-6)

On the road to Emmaus Jesus explained the word to two disciples. He “expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” Because he gave them understanding to comprehend the Scriptures their hearts burned within them (Luke 24:27, 32).

It’s ironic that Isaiah who saw a vision of the Lord on his throne. He was made clean to speak to the people and is quoted by Jesus "And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: 'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.'(Matt 13:14-15)

Hearing what? Jesus had referred to the Old Testament Scripture.

In Mark 4:10 after Jesus gives the parable on the sower; the seed and the soil. He explains to them of the need (vv.13-14) to understand this parable, as it is the key to all the parables. “The sower sows the word.” In Matthew 13:18-23 Jesus explains the seed is the Word and how the people need ears to hear, so they can understand the spiritual meanings of the Word and be fruitful. There are four examples of soil given, only one has the seed grow up to eventually bear fruit, the other three do not. Jesus explains Mark 4:20: “But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirty fold, some sixty, and some a hundred.

The Word of God brings the fruit of the Spirit in one’s life in various degrees when it is understood correctly, when misapplied it can bring ruin. Jesus is pointing to the Scripture, not tradition, nor new revelation. Our new life begins in the word and is dependent on understanding and living out His written Word.

As Isaiah also spoke “These also who erred in spirit will come to understanding, and those who complained will learn doctrine” (29:24). The Holy Spirit will give us understanding of what is written, not new revelation; for the simple reason He is not giving it. If you profess to love Jesus, show it by continuing in his word (Jn.14:23-24).
