Is the Devil (Satan) different from Lucifer?

The word Hebrew we use for Lucifer is Heleel ben shachar, meaning son of the morning. In Job chapters 1 and 2 we find some inside information of the creature who is the leader, king over the fallen angels.

Job 1:6 “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.”

He is summoned to appear in heaven at a certain time before God to be accountable with the other fallen angels.

Luke 10:18 And He (Jesus) said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

He was formerly known as the Son of the morning, Day Star, and then he fell and became Satan, the accuser of the brethren.

Isa 14:12 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!”

This great angel retains his ability to be as a beautiful light or look like a minister of light through his chosen men who deceive others to depart from the truth. 2 Cor. 11:14 “And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” His original form had glory and he still maintains a portion of this which he uses to deceive many people that he is from God.

The way to deliverance for those who are being deceived by this angel of light which brings one into darkness is to hear the gospel. Acts 26:18 'to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'

We play a small part in this “in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” (2 Tim 2:25-26)

The Bible makes it clear The Serpent, the Devil and Satan are all the same fallen angel, these describe him in various different functions.

To the church we are warned he is a deceiver offering something that he says is of God to us. 2 Cor. 11:3 “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness”

To a certain sect of the religious leaders Jesus said "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44)

He is the one who introduced the first lie to the only humans at the time, a lie that would challenge God’s truth instructed to them. What ensued was sin introduce to the human condition.

I Jn 3:8 “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning

Once he fell he was known as the Devil, one who opposes God

Heb 2:14b speaking of Jesus “that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” He brought death to all humanity, Jesus was sent to reverse this.

When we come to the last book of the Bible these titles are conglomerated to describe this Angel (dragon- Serpent of old, the Devil and Satan)

Rev. 12:9 “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

At a certain point in the tribulation the Devil and all the angels are removed from heaven by God’s angels (Rev.12:7-8), yet when the tribulation is brought to its end by Jesus’ return, he is dealt with by God sending an angel of his own.

Armageddon is when Jesus vanquishes evil and the rebellion of man. He will judge the nations, mankind involved in the tribulation that brought harm to his people. They will share in the same place that was made for the Devil who brought the rebellion to the angels. Matt 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels”

The millennium commences where Satan and his demons are removed for nearly the whole 1,000 period as Jesus rules on earth as king of the nations.

Rev 20:1-3 “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

So ends the rule of Satan over individuals and nations.
