When does this Judgment of Mt.7 take place? Matt 7:21-23: “Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' This is a unique statement found only here and nowhere else. It is a pronouncement on those at the end of the church age who thought they did what Jesus wanted and believed themselves to be great in his kingdom, Jesus said they will not enter his kingdom. “In that Day” shows a specific time when they are before him and he bans them from the kingdom. V:22 Notice they specifically claim, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” Jesus told the Pharisees who were so religious, and appeared righteous, they were especially pious but Jesus said they were “full of hypocrisy and lawlessness” (Matt 23:28). We are told in the end, the last days "lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Matt 24:12. John explains committing “sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.’ (I Jn. 3:4) This could have a direct relation to II Thess. 2:7 “the mystery of lawlessness is already at work” and becomes predominant at a certain time in history. This time period of lawlessness is also dominated by deception (Mt.24:4-5) false prophets (Mt.24:11) here is where we find Jesus say “lawlessness will abound” (Mt.24:12) then explains the culmination of the false prophets, miracle workers all to deceive (v.24). At one point in his ministry Jesus said “But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46), he then goes on to explain of those who apply his sayings are on a strong foundation that nothing can shake (this also relates to the Tribulation period as well as everyday living) Jesus gives a parable of two companies called virgins, the bridegroom is to meet (one group is obedient the other is not). Matt. 25:11-13 "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.' "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” Luke 13:25-27 "When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from,' "then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.'" But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' (lawlessness) Jesus is giving an illustration of him closing the entering of the kingdom, at the judgment and there will be no turning back. Here we find the statement “I do not know you,” and “Depart from Me, all you workers of lawlessness.” We read in Matt. 13:41 "The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness.” At the end of the Tribulation Matt. 24:30-31"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matt 25:31-41 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. "All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. "And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 'for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 'I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 'When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels” The judgment when all are raised before him is to measure out
the justice of their punishment. The righteous did his work, his will, not
knowing on whom because they were sheep, they were obedient. What seems to fit is when Jesus returns rather than the white throne judgment because there are a number of repetitive phrases that when put together coincide with the timing. |
