Jesus Christ - the foreshadow of the sacrifices, the last sacrifice fro believers to live in the new covenant Hebrews chapter 9 -10 says the sacrifices are over, there were completed by the one and last sacrifice that was a propitiation for our sins, there are no animal sacrifices acceptable to God any longer, to say there are denies Jesus’ sacrifice. Heb 9:26 “He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” The Old Testament sacrifices were shadows of the one that was to come, from the beginning given to Adam, to Noah and the Mosaic system anticipated this. “For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.” For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure. Then I said, 'Behold, I have come-- in the volume of the book it is written of Me-- to do Your will, O God.' " Previously saying, "Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" (which are offered according to the law), then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Heb 10:1-10) Both covenants (the old Mosaic, and the new- crucifixion of Christ) were based on sacrifices, it is only the new one that is not repeated, that is permanent in its effect. Why? Because it was God who came in the flesh, the eternal being, the creator of life was the one who participated. Heb. 8:13 In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” The law was written by Moses (Jn.1:14) Jesus said "The law and the prophets were until John" (Luke 16:16). Then came the Messiah that had people believe and follow until the culmination of his ministry established the New Covenant. This took away the old covenant (Heb.8), have it put aside for the believers in Him. Heb 10:11-12 “And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.” A Priest never sat because his work was not finished. But Jesus as the high priest instating the New Covenant that will last forever by his own life was able to sit as he was resurrected and returned from where he came. Heb 10:16-21 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,"then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God.” Now we have a an eternal high priest, the one who took on flesh, lived a perfect life, resisting sin and overcame death. I Jn 1:7: “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” The one time sacrifice continually cleanses us as we are transparent to God and confess our sins and allow his cleansing agent to work. Our conscience is clear and our fellowship is unbroken with man and God Our part each day is to sacrifice our self (desires, pursuits, yearnings)… Rom. 12:1: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Everyday we are faced with choices, to do the will of the Lord we must have “our self” be overcome so that his spirit can rule over decisions and we can act accordingly. The more this is done the more disciplined we become in living in His Spirit and the more we will be “willing” to do what is right in his eyes.
