God does not change, therefore we should not eat unclean animals

Gen 1:29-30 And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. "Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so.

So every creature was not a meat eater. Before Noah Adam was told not to eat any animals. So if God does not change why did God allow Noah to eat any animal?

Gen 7:2 "You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female”

When the flood ended and Noah left the ark “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar” (Gen. 8:20)

The clean and unclean were distinguished for sacrifice, not food, Noah could eat any animal. It was not until after the Flood that God allowed man to eat the flesh of animals 9:3. Before this man did not eat any animal; then God specifically told man he could eat any animal (clean or unclean)

Gen. 9:2-4"And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. "But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.”

When the Mosaic Law was employed it distinguished Israel as a people from all the other nations that they forbidden to eat what was unclean.

Moses’ Law

Lev 7:19 'The flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. And as for the clean flesh, all who are clean may eat of it.

Lev 10:10-11 "that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean,"and that you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD has spoken to them by the hand of Moses."

Notice this is through Moses for Israel, not the gentile world.

(Lev.11; Deut.14 God explains what is unclean twenty animals and birds in all; also things offered in sacrifice to idols)

God does not change – IN HIS NATURE, His being, He is constantly perfect. But in his relationship with man he changed numerous times. That is why we have an old and new covenant, one was conditional (the old), the new is unconditional.

Acts 10:14-15 But Peter said, "Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean." And a voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must not call common."

Peter is shown animals he would not eat to understand that if God cleansed the animals He certainly cleansed the Gentiles whom he would be sent to (v.28). Peter later gets himself in trouble with his compromise from Jewish brethren that did not believe in the freedom of the New Covenant. Gal 2:12 “for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. (meaning the Judaizer’s.)

Rom 14:1-2 “Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.” V.6 “He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

Paul not only speaks of food but days which also have to do with observance under the Mosaic covenant (old covenant)

Paul summarizes his point by stating in Rom. 14:14 “I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.”

Paul begins his teaching on our liberty in the new covenant 1 Cor. 8:1 “Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. V:3 “But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.” He explains There are many things called gods, but to us there is but one God, that we are relationship with The Father and the Son (1 Cor. 8:7-13).

“However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. (again it is a matter of ones faith being weak) But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Paul sums up this liberty we all have

V.13 “Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

1 Cor. 10:25 “Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience' sake; V.28 we can eat meat that is even sacrificed to idols if it does not stumble our brothers.”

God does not change – means HIS NATURE, His being. We must understand that God has changed his commands to man which are relation to his covenant with man. The old covenant made the distinction of clean and unclean for Israel (only) and new covenant which is unconditional brings freedom to these non- moral restrictions.
