Is Genesis a world-wide Flood?

The question in debates is that the flood was local and not universal, affecting the whole world.

The purpose of the Flood: to judge the entire world of its sin that overtook peoples lives.

The population, both animal and man were destroyed, which would require a universal Flood to accomplish this. Gen. 6:5-7 and 6:11-13 all physical life was destroyed (v. 22). Gen. 7:19 and 7:22.

The Flood covered all the high mountains by 22 feet (Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail), which could only happen with a universal Flood.

The large size of the ark would have been unnecessary if the flood were local. In fact Noah and his family could have easily moved with a good amount of animals in that amount of time it took to build the ark.

The length of time to cover the earth and to recede the Flood prevailed for 150 days, it took 225

days for the earth to dry up. Gen. 7:24; Gen. 8:3-5; Gen. 8:13-14 with 7:11.

Only Noah and his family were left. The Bible records show this by the genealogies and the nations created from Noahs three sons who went out in different directions.

All the Bible references to the Flood other than the book of Genesis speak of this event as a universal Flood.

Job 22:15-16; Ps. 104:5-9; Isa. 54:9; Matt. 24:39; Luke 17:27; Heb. 11:7; I Pet. 3:20; 2 Pet. 2:5; 3:5-6

The 2 Peter 3:5-6 passage makes a comparison with creation and the final destruction of the world in the

Tribulation, which is also universal. As man and the world was judged in the beginning it will be judged in the end.

The Bible has God say to Noah: Gen. 9:11: "Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth." V:15 "and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.”

Notice it says to destroy the earth, not a certain area.

The universal Noahic Flood is mentioned in over 40 other cultures that do not reference the Bible, they all have various stories and name, some are more accurate than other but none are accurate like the Bible.
